4 Killed, 16 Wounded In US Base Shooting
In a shooting at the military base named Fort Hood in Texas, four people were killed and at least sixteen injured, according to US authority reports. The incident took place on Wednesday evening.
The gunman was identified as Ivan Lopez, an Iraq war veteran, who was in uniform at the time of incident and used a 45 caliber Smith & Wesson semi-automatic handgun, the authorities said. Lopez, reportedly, had mental health issues. He fired at two separate locations and when confronted by a female police officer, pulled out a gun from under his jacket and shot himself in the head.
US President Barack Obama said that the incident “reopens the pain of what happened at Fort Hood five years ago.” The base had witnessed a massacre in 2009 when a US army psychiatrist Major Nidal Hasan killed 13 people.
