23 Shia Pilgrims Killed in Baluchistan
At least 23 Shia pilgrims and are reported to have been killed by militants who attacked their buses in Pakistan’s Baluchistan province. Around 18 pilgrims are said to have been injured in the attack. The pilgrims were on their way back from Iran after the visit of holy sites.
Briefing journalists on the incident, Home Minister Sarfaraz Bugti said, ‘As soon as the pilgrims came out of the buses to go to the hotel first a group of militants first opened indiscriminate fire on them and also threw hand grenades before rushing into the hotel and taking refuge there.” He added that four of the attackers were killed in a an exchange of fire.
The banned Jaish-ul Islam outfit has reportedly claimed the responsibility of the attack. According to sources, the bodies of the pilgrims have been shifted to hospitals and the injured are receiving treatment
Iran Closes Pakistan Border
In response to the murder of Shia pilgrims, Iran has decided to close its border with Pakistan for an indefinite period.
