‘Ukraine Free To Have Own Choices’
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in a statement at a press conference held in Finland, on Monday evening that Ukrainians should have their own choices without any foreign intervention. He made the statement after meeting with his Finnish counterpart Erkki Tuomioja, Xinhua reported.
Tuomioja said that Finland wants Ukraine to live peacefully like any other country, and the Ukrainian people should have rights to choose their own way without foreign intervention. Lavrov criticized the European Union’s position and said that Russia was doing everything it could to help resolve the Ukraine crisis.
‘Light at the end of the Tunnel’
Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that there was “light at the end of the tunnel” over the Ukrainian crisis. Steinmeier would be meeting his Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski along with Lavrov in Russia. The meeting which has been planned for months has raised hopes for a possible cease-fire.
