Art Gallery opened in Kochi
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation KC Venugopal told the media that the Government has planned for building up art galleries at Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram airports. He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the art gallery at Nedumbassery airport, a first in the state.
“If Kerala Lalitha Kala Akademi requests, we will consider opening similar facilities at Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode airports,’’ the Minister said.
“The internationally- acclaimed artistic excellence of Kerala is a major tourist attraction. These art galleries will be a perfect venue for aspiring artists,’’ he added. The major works of 30 artists, who have won state academy awards earlier, will be featured in the program.
The visitors can get the major works within the fixed price range of Rs 30,000 and 40, 000 this month. For the groups or establishment who buy the maximum number of paintings, discounts will be provided.
For a price of Rs 5,000, paintings by young artists of Kerala will be available. Prints of works by renowned artists like Raja Ravi Varma and K C S Panikker also will be available at the gallery for Rs 350.
Anwar Sadath MLA presided over the inaugural function. K P Dhanapalan MP was the chief guest.
Dhanapalan MP inaugurated the first sale of the art gallery by handing over a portrait to Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) managing director V J Kurien.
District Panchayath president Eldhose Kunnappilly, Parakkadavu Block Panjayath President M K Shaji and Nedumbassery Grama Panchayath President P Y Varghese were also present.
