‘Babri Masjid Demolition Was Planned’

A sting operation by Cobrapost, an Indian news website and television production house known for its investigative journalism, revealed that the demolition of Babri masjid was planned well in advance by the senior leaders of BJP, Shiv Sena, the larger Sangh Parivar and even Congress.

BJP, despite its active backing of the karsavaks who were formed for the demolition purpose, had absolved itself of responsibility for the demolition stating it was a spontaneous reaction of the karsavakas. That was the stand the party adopted in the court as well as for formulating coalition at the Centre.

Cobrapost claimed that the sting operation was carried out by a reporter who travelled across the country as the author of the Ayodhya movement and interviewed twenty three persons who played a vital role in the movement including Uma Bharti, Vinay Katiyar, Kalyan Singh, Champat Rai, Sadhavi Ritambhara, Jai Bhagwan Goel and Mahant Avaidyanath. According to the reports ‘Operation Janambhoomi’ was planned in great detail to demolish the Babri mosque on 6 December 1992.  Former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Kalyan Singh and former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao were also in the know of the plot. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Shiv Sena had trained their cadre for the purpose and the RSS formed a suicide squad ‘balidani dasta’.  Bajrang Dal had formed ‘Laxman Sena’, trained by former military officers, in using grappling hooks, petrol bombs and dynamite sticks as a back-up plan.

With the looming national elections, BJP has approached the Election Commission demanding to stop the broadcast of the Cobrapost sting accusing it to be a Congress conspiracy to vitiate the poll atmosphere in the country.
