Islamic Arts Festival begins in Sharjah Next Month
The sixteenth edition of the Islamic Arts Festival commences in Sharjah next month. The celebrations coincide with the Emirate being named the capital of Islamic culture for 2014. More than 250 people will be participating in the event which will begin on January 6.
The event showcases forty six exhibitions and seven thirty one artworks along with first time exhibitions by young artists. A display of Turkish Variations, a collection of classical calligraphic artwork, a range of prayer beads made from different kinds of stones and shapes, and ebru (marbling) art related to Islamic heritage will also be featured. An exhibition of handicrafts decorated with calligraphy and Islamic ornaments by artists from Uzbekistan will be held. The Emirates Fine Arts Society will hold a competition for the best work of Islamic visual art movements. The event also showcases an exhibition by the Union of Arab Photographers, titled “Islam between the East and the West”. The festival will hold about eighty six workshops describing different trends and styles, thirteen video presentations, four training courses, fifty eight field visits and a religious singing concert. Scholars from different Arab countries will be attending the seminars and lectures which will be conducted in Sharjah and the eastern region during the fest.
