Massive Heroin Haul Seized By the Australian Navy
The Australian navy, on Saturday, seized and destroyed 353 kilograms (780 pounds) of heroin in a mission off the coast of Tanzania. The drugs are believed to have an estimated street value of more than $700 million.
Navy personal from aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne discovered the suspected drug smuggling vessel on Wednesday as part of a mission “in support of deterring terrorism and promoting peace and security in the maritime regions of the Middle East and Indian Ocean”. The authorities said that the material tested a positive reading for heroin. A team from the frigate seized the drugs, took samples and destroyed the remainder.
