Obama holds out Olive Branch; Modi Accepts
Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi accepted on Thursday an invitation from US President Barack Obama to have bilateral discussions. It is reported that Mr Modi will leave for US in September. The talks, as it appear, will write a new chapter in the bilateral relationship of the two countries.
The US had in 2005 denied visa to Modi under the Freedom of Religion Act in connection with the Gujarat riot three years earlier. In September last year the US sent signs signifying that Mr Modi would be granted Visa should he become the Prime Minister. When BJP was elected with a decisive mandate, Mr Barack Obama and US Secretary of State John Kerry congratulated Mr Modi. The invitation is the result of positive diplomatic moves the US has taken.
The meeting is scheduled to be held tentatively on September 30.
