Edward Snowden Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

7_0Edward Snowden, who sent shockwaves across the globe through his revelations of NSA surveillance program, has been nominated for the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize by two members of the Norwegian Parliament.

Socialist Left party members Bard Vegar Solhjell and Snorre Valen nominated the twenty nine year old Snowden for contributing to global stability and world peace. In the statements sent to the Nobel Committee they said that Snowden made  critical contribution to restoring balance between a ‘country’s legitimate need for reliable intelligence to preserve its own security’ and ‘people’s individual freedoms’, reports say.

The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded to ‘the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses,’ the report added.
