Grand Finale for Dubai International Film Festival

irrfanThe 10th Dubai International film Festival has recently concluded with prominent film makers and actors bagging the leading awards. Indian actor, Irrfan Khan bagged the Best Actor award for Muhr Asia Africa Feature for his film Dabba (The Lunchbox). The film was a box office blockbuster getting unanimous critical acclaim with Irrfan doing complete justice to his character of Saajan Fernandes. Irrfan Khan is popular for his roles in Maqbool ,Paan Singh Tomar and Life of Pi. The director and scriptwriter of the film Ritesh Batra got a Special Mention for Best Script in the same section.

Singapore-based filmmaker and anthropologist Sandeep Ray won Best Director for his Bengali short movie Shirno Bahu (Thin Arms) for Muhr AsiaAfrica Short. Ray’s, documentary Kokkho Poth (The Sound of Old Rooms) was showcased in DIFF in 2011. Tsai Ming Liang won the Best Director award for Stray Dogs (Taiwan).Anthony Chen’s Ilo Ilo won in the Best Film category. The film was received well at the Mumbai Film Festival. The brilliant Omar by Hany Abu-Assad (Palestine, UAE) won both the Best Director and Best Film in the Muhr Arab Feature section.
