Van Gogh’s New Painting on Display!

2Sunset at Montmajour, A new Vincent Van Gogh painting has been discovered. Ittook two years of research to confirm its authenticity. The workis believed to have beendone during the artist’s time in the Southern French town of Arles, the same period during which he painted his Sunflowers, The Yellow House andThe Bedroom.

The priceless piece will be on display from 24 September to 12 January in the current Van Gogh at Work Exhibition, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam said in a news release.

Sunset at Montmajour, was part of the collection of Van Gogh’s brother Theo. Itwas sold in 1901. The piece is now owned by private collectors who approached the museum to verify the genuineness of the painting.

Louis van Tilborgh, a senior researcher at the Van Gogh Museum, told at a news briefing streamed live by the Dutch Internet site www.at5.nlthat after two years of thorough investigation, it was found that the style, painting materials and context were matching to other Van Gogh works completed in the summer of 1888. The pigments used are similar to those that Van Gogh used during his time including the discolorations that are a feature of his work, he said.
